Ярослава Покорна

Jaroslava Pokorná is a Czech theater, film, and television actress. She was born in 1946 into a family of a theatrologist and a translator. She studied dramatic acting at DAMU in Prague, where she graduated for a second time in 1999, this time in Authorial Theatre and Pedagogy. During her initial studies, she guest-starred at the Realistické Theatre in Smíchov (later the Labyrint Theatre, now the Švandovo Theatre), where she subsequently held a permanent engagement until 1998. Afterwards, she made guest appearances at the Theatre in Řeznická and on stages in Kladno and Příbram. Since September 1998, she has been a permanent member of the Divadlo v Dlouhé ensemble. Alongside acting, she is the author of the book Maminka není doma. Her career on camera is also extensive, often portraying quirky or kind-hearted women. Audiences may know her from numerous films and series, such as Charlatan, Co ste hasiči, Zdivočelá země, and Okresní přebor. She won the prestigious Czech Lion award for her supporting role as Jan Palach's mother in the hit miniseries Burning Bush.
