Jiří Wohanka

Jiří Wohanka is a Czech theatre, television, and film actor. He was born in 1946 and acquired his acting education at the end of the 1960s when he successfully graduated in drama acting from DAMU in Prague. He spent his first and immediately long-term engagement from 1969 to 1990 at what is now the Municipal Theatre in Kladno, where he portrayed dozens of pivotal roles. After that, he worked for six years at the Labyrint Theatre in Prague. In 1996, he was at the birth of the Prague-based Divadlo v Dlouhé, where he became one of the reliable pillars of the acting ensemble. Audiences might know him from this stage, for example, from the award-winning production Lidská tragikomedie (The Human Tragicomedy), but he also acted in the popular productions Naši furianti or Soudné sestry (Wyrd Sisters). He extensively applies his experience in front of the camera as well. On television, he frequently and brilliantly portrays various character supporting roles. He appeared in the classic Byl jednou jeden dům, in the series Zdivočelá země, and people also know him well from newer projects such as Pojišťovna štěstí, Místo nahoře, or Ranč U Zelené sedmy.
