Jan Šťáva

Jan Šťáva is one of the most acclaimed and sought-after Czech operatic basses of his generation. He studied opera singing at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts (JAMU) in Brno, winning numerous awards at international competitions during his studies. Since 2010, he has been a permanent soloist of the Janáček Opera of the National Theatre Brno, where he performs core bass roles of the classical repertoire. He regularly and successfully guest stars at the National Theatre in Prague. He also left a significant mark at the South Bohemian Theatre in České Budějovice in the successful production of Handel's oratorio Messiah. He has made exceptionally successful guest appearances on prestigious European stages, performing at the Opéra National de Paris, the BBC Proms in London, and the Salzburg Festival. Critics often praise him not only for his dark, resonant, and technically secure voice but also for his immense acting and comedic talent.
