Miřenka Čechová

Miřenka Čechová is one of the most prominent figures in contemporary physical theatre, dance, and performance on the international stage. As the co-founder of the Spitfire Company and Tantehorse, she constantly pushes the boundaries between movement, word, and visual arts. A graduate of the Prague Dance Conservatory with a PhD from DAMU, she has merged classical training with avant-garde experimentation. Her solo projects, such as S/He is Nancy Joe (a reflection on transsexuality) and Miss AmeriKa (an insight into life in New York), have garnered prestigious awards in the USA and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. As a director and choreographer, she collaborates with leading venues, including the National Theatre, various opera houses, and the F. X. Šalda Theatre in Liberec. Miřenka Čechová is an author of several books and a recipient of The Best of Contemporary Dance award from The Washington Post.
