Matej Štesko
Matej Štesko is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, and sound designer whose work defines the sound of the contemporary Czech and Slovak stage. A native of Banská Bystrica who swapped philosophy studies for filmmaking, he brings raw energy, an eye for detail, and a tribute to 1990s pop culture to the theatre.
After studying at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica and starting out at the Puppet Theatre at the Crossroads, he moved to Prague in 2013. There, he became a key collaborator of director Tomáš Dianiška, composing music for major productions between 2019 and 2023, including hits like 294 Brave Souls, The Encyclopedia of Action Film, and The Film Critic's Wife. Matej’s versatility is boundless—from writing children's musicals and working with Czech Radio to performing with the Aqualung theatre band. In addition to his theatrical work, he focuses on his solo projects; following his debut Sirény (2015), he is currently releasing the album DRUHÁ DOSKA, a stylistic tribute to 90s music.
