Libor Fára
Libor Fára was a set designer, costume designer, and painter who fundamentally influenced the visual form of modern Czech theatre, teaching it to speak through imagery. His work became synonymous with the era of Theatre of the Absurd and the playful scenography of the 1960s.
He spent his defining years at the Divadlo Na zábradlí (Theatre on the Balustrade), where, alongside director Jan Grossman, he designed legendary productions such as Ubu Roi or Havel's The Garden Party. Fára was famous for incorporating found objects and apparent junk onto the stage, giving them entirely new meanings. In addition to his work at Zábradlí, he collaborated with the The Drama Club (Činoherní klub), the National Theatre, and various stages abroad. Alongside theatre, he focused on fine art painting, collage, and graphic design—he is the creator of the logos for both Divadlo Na zábradlí and The Drama Club, as well as numerous iconic posters.
