Miloš Macourek
Miloš Macourek was the architect of Czech film and theatrical fantasy. As a brilliant screenwriter and playwright, he managed to intertwine absurd humor with fairytale worlds in a way no one else could.
His name is also inextricably linked to the Divadlo Na zábradlí (Theatre on the Balustrade), where he served as a dramaturg in the 1960s and, alongside Jan Grossman, shaped the face of Czech Theatre of the Absurd. It was here, in December 1967, that his groundbreaking absurd comedy Hra na Zuzanku (The Susan Game) premiered. Beyond the stage, he conquered the world with his scripts for films such as You Are a Widow, Sir! and The Girl on the Broomstick, as well as the cult series Arabela and the animated classic Mach and Šebestová.
