Jiřina Bohdalová

Jiřina Bohdalová is a legend of Czech theatre, film, and television. After graduating from DAMU, she began at the Vinohrady Theatre in Prague and later worked at the Prague City Theatres, the ABC Theatre, and other leading stages. Audiences loved her in the drama The Ear and Lady on the Tracks, fairy tales such as Kačenka and the Ghosts and The Immortal Aunt, and in series like Circus Humberto, Arabela, The Cottagers, Friends from the House of Mourning, and The Insurance of Happiness. She also shone in Televarieté alongside Vladimír Dvořák, and her voice is inseparably linked with children’s bedtime stories such as Rákosníček, Křemílek and Vochomůrka, and Fairy Tales from Moss and Fern. Critics call her the “first lady of Czech humour,” and her charisma and energy continue to inspire audiences across generations. Her daughter, Simona Stašová, is also a leading figure of Czech theatre.
