    František Němec

    František Němec

František Němec is an actor and educator. After studying acting at the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (DAMU), he was engaged at the Prague City Theatres for eighteen years, starting in 1964. There, he played a number of rewarding roles—such as Orestes (The Flies), Yossarian (Catch-22), Lot (Kingdom of Earth), Proteus (The Two Gentlemen of Verona), the Robber (Painted on Glass), and Adamar (Hallelujah, Good People). Since 1982, he has been a member of the National Theatre Drama ensemble, where he began with the title roles of Shakespeare's Hamlet and Goethe's Faust. He is also a successful television, radio, and film actor. His now-legendary acting roles include Colonel Žitný in the series 30 případů majora Zemana (30 Cases of Major Zeman) and Luboš Rychman in the television films Jak vytrhnout velrybě stoličku (How to Pull Out a Whale's Tooth) and Jak dostat tatínka do polepšovny (How to Get Dad Into a Reform School), where he starred alongside Jana Preissová and Tomáš Holý. He won the 1998 Thalia Award for his role as conductor Wilhelm Furtwängler in Harwood's play Na miskách vah (Taking Sides). In 2021, he was awarded the František Filipovský Award in Přelouč for his lifelong mastery in voice acting and dubbing.
