Яна Томечкова

Jana Tomečková is a legend of Czech theatre and a long-standing pillar of the Municipal Theatre Zlín, where she has been a permanent member of the ensemble since 1970. Drawn to theatre from an early age, she began her professional career at the South Bohemian Theatre in České Budějovice, continued at the Slovácké Theatre in Uherské Hradiště and Prague’s Divadlo Jiřího Wolkera, before settling in Zlín, which became her artistic home. On the Zlín stage she has created more than two hundred roles and left a lasting impression on several generations of audiences, notably as Marta (Dvaasedmdesátka), Anna Fierling (Mother Courage), Madame Hortensie (Zorba the Greek), Aunt Juříčková (Šakalí léta), and the unforgettable Maude in Harold and Maude. For her portrayal of Violet Weston in August: Osage County, she was included in the extended nomination for the Thalia Award in 2016. Alongside theatre, Jana Tomečková has worked extensively in radio and voice acting. Critics describe her as “an actress of exceptional inner strength and nobility, capable of filling the stage with humanity and truth.”
