Vertep

Kharkiv Puppet Theater

This vertep is unusual and traditional because it has no words. The authors communicate with the viewer through symbols and traditional Christmas music, the basis of which are carols. The Christmas story, the theme of the struggle between Good and Evil, is directly connected with today's realities and unites the whole country with its semantic field. There is no usual story in the performance, but instead there is a ritual action that returns to the ancient story of birth and death, gives strength and faith in the inevitable victory of Good and Light. This performance was created in collaboration with Kharkiv and Lviv Puppet Theaters. The premiere took place in Lviv in December 2022 with the participation of actors and creators of both theaters.
