Michal Kotrouš
Michal Kotrouš is a theater translator and Germanist. Born in 1973 in Prague, he completed a vocational course in electrical engineering before studying German, Czech, and theater studies at Charles University's Faculty of Arts. His background in amateur theater led him to professionally translate stage plays from German-speaking countries. Working at the Aura-Pont theatrical agency, he helps Czech venues discover new titles and playwrights. He has translated over sixty plays, which have resulted in dozens of productions across Czech theaters. His best-known works include popular comedies such as Ms. Muller Must Go (Úča musí pryč!), Chicken on the Back (Slepice na zádech), Charity (Benefice), and the hit Meet at the Ark at Eight (V osm u archy). In addition to theater, he translates for Czech Radio. Whether handling contemporary comedies, family plays, or intimate dramas, he is a prominent link between the German-language and Czech theatrical worlds.
